SULEYMANIYE MOSQUE - The mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent was built between 1550 and 1557 by the famous architect Sinan whose wish was to surpass the builders of St. Sophia which is conspicuous from its great size, emphasized by the four minarets rising one from each corner of the courtyard.

This half day tour will begin on land, where we will be visiting CITY WALLS, GOLDEN HORN, SPICE BAZAAR (Egyptian Bazaar). Following which we will initiate our BOAT TRIP ON THE BOSPHORUS A traditional excursion by boat along the waterway seperating Europe and Asia. The shore is lined with old wooden villas, palaces of marble, fortresses, and small fishing villages. During the excursion you will pass the magnificent Dolmabahce Palace, and further along, the parks and imperial pavillions of Yildiz Palace. On the coastal edge of this park, is Ciragan Palace, 300 meters of is marble facade faces the shore. At Ortakoy a great variety of artists gather every Sunday to display their work along the street. Ortakoy is a symbol of tolerance with a church, a mosque and a synagogue existing side by side for centuries. We will also be sailing past RUMELI FORTRESS.

Drive to the Asian side of Istanbul to catch ferryboat to Yalova. After the half hour cruise continue to Iznik (ancient Nicea) where the First (AD 325) and the Seventh (AD 787) Ecumenical Councils were held. The Seventh Ecumenical Council, gathered at St. Sophia of Nicea, marked the separation of the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches. This small church is one of the 4 warship places named with the title St Sophia under the reign of the Byzantine Emperors in todays Turkey. Besides the church, we will see the ruins of the Byzantine citadel, old city walls and remaining Agora. This is a whole day tour where lunch is included.
A half day tour visiting DOLMABAHCE PALACE, BOSPHORUS BRIDGE and CAMLICA HILL
A full day tour with lunch of Edirne where we will be visiting places like: Eski Camii - a mosque built of cut stone and brick 1402-14 with fine white marble portal and decorative calligraphy on the interior walls and pillars. Selimiye Mosque - Edirne's crowning glory, was built for Selim II, (1566-74) by Sinan who was the architect of the Abode of Felicity for 50 years. Semiz Ali Pasa Arasta - is also the work of Sinan. Completed in 1589, it is a long tunnel-like building with shops on both sides. Meric bridge - constructed at the junction of Meriç and Arda rivers between 1842 - 1847. Kule Kapisi - is all that remains of the tower which once protected the principal gate of the citadel. It was rebuilt by the Byzantine emperor John Comnenus II (1118-43) as part of his repair of the Hadrianic defensive system. Beyazit Kulliyesi is the largest in Edirne, the complex had a mosque and an hospital which was famous for the skill of its surgeons. In the octogonal, domed timarhane the insane were treated by musical therapy.
